WHITEWATER PARKS INTERNATIONAL and the LEE VALLEY WHITE WATER CENTRE

London 2012 CEO Paul Deighton commends the creative planning that has gone into launching the world's newest & most accessible whitewater venue.

 

Being hailed as "best of its type, anywhere in the world" the Centre has hosted more than 100,000 visitors since opening weekend, many of whom have already decended the same rapids as Olympians will next year.

Following a media launch earlier in the week, the Lee Valley White Water Centre ceremoniously opened its gates to the public on April 22, 2011, providing unprecedented Legacy benefits a full 15 months before the Games.

Besides a momentous grand opening, the Centre also announced being awarded the 2015 World Championships and conducted the British Championships & Team Selection, all inside its first month of operation.

With construction finished, national teams have begun training in anticipation of upcoming Olympic events. In addition, the venue will be open to the public for significant portions of 2011and 2012, offering rafting and other community-based whitewater activities, delivering on its pre-Games legacy.
