WHITEWATER PARKS INTERNATIONAL and the LONDON 2012 OLYMPIC DELIVERY TEAM

Whitewater Parks International (WPI,) leaders in project development, programming, and operation of state-of-the-art whitewater facilities, as part of a full project design team appointed to the task by the Olympic Delivery Authority, developed the planning-approved Compliant Design and course-related performance specifications for the newly launched
Lee Valley White Water Centre
in Waltham Cross, Hertfordshire, UK that served as the London 2012 Olympic Canoe/ Kayak Slalom venue.

As one of the most popular sports on the Olympic program, Canoe/ Kayak Slalom, along with its specific venue demands, requires a unique balance of expertise, skill, and creativity for athletes, organizers, and spectators alike. As whitewater course specialists, WPI couldn't be better suited to this project, with its unparalleled Games-related and international sport-specific experience.

In continuing its Olympic service, WPI has realized yet another opportunity to instill their distinctive brand of whitewater course development in London - a world-class and community-accessible venue built upon sound planning principles and design-focused efficiency.

"Through WPI's full-spectrum planning process, our projects remain fiscally sustainable for their operators", observes Bob Campbell, WPI's Managing Director. "That's our signature approach and it represents an essential contribution to Lee Valley White Water Centre"

"We are honored to once again have played an integral role in the Olympic process, in having developed a whitewater venue that has not only served its Olympic constituents, but has become a compelling attraction for visitors to the United Kingdom, as well", notes WPI Projects Manager John Felton."The hosting communities of northeast London deserve a rich and sustainable Legacy venue from this project and WPI has been firmly committed to helping achieve that vision."

The collaboration with London 2012 marks another significant stake in the Olympic movement for the WPI Team, whose principals oversaw the design, construction, and implementation of the very successful 2000 Olympic Whitewater venue in Penrith, Australia. The Penrith Whitewater Stadium remains to date the only fully commercial purpose-built whitewater operation in the world with a decade-long history of financial solvency.
